Learn to Paddle

Thinking of giving this exciting sport of dragon boating a go?

Come and “Learn to Paddle” with our team FREE for an entire month!

We welcome new paddlers to “Learn to Paddle” with our friendly club!  You can paddle free for 28 days to help you decide whether it’s the sport for you.  Bring a water bottle, wear a cap, comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, water and shoes that can get wet.  You will receive qualified coaching, insurance cover via DBNSW and the use of our paddling equipment. By trialling this amazing sport, you can see if dragon boating is for you before making a financial commitment. Dragon boating is a dynamic and engaging water sport that combines teamwork, strength, and endurance.
Warning, dragon boating can be addictive.

We currently paddle up to three times a week (numbers permitting).  See the “Training” page for the latest paddling times.  The best time to “Learn to Paddle” is our Technique Session on Sunday mornings at 8.45am.  Please arrive at Morpeth Boat Ramp by 8.30am so we can get you a paddle and go through the basics of dragon boat paddling before we begin our warm-up session at 8.45am.
Before attending, please call 0487 274 430 or email: membership@hunterriverdragons.com

So that you are covered by insurance during those free sessions, you will need to complete a Waiver Form.  A copy of the form is available to download here. The form will ask if you can swim 50 metres in your clothes.  If you can’t, you can still paddle with us but we will provide you with a personal flotation device (PFD) for your safety.

What to expect:

Fun, hard work, adventure, the thrill of racing dragon boats, excitement, friends for life!

Dragon boat racing is a great way to get fit, make new friends, compete in a team sport and have fun all at the same time!

So what are you waiting for? Register for your DragonPass (See “Registration” page) and come give us a try!
